English Paragraph

Romeo makes an important decision when he chooses to go to the Capulet’s party all because he sees Rosaline’s name on the list, as this choice leads to Romeo meeting Juliet and thus their consequential love story and deaths.

In Act 1: Scene 2, Romeo and Benvolio come across a young squire called Peter who tells the two that the Capulets are hosting a party and that the Montagues are specifically not allowed to come.
Benvolio: At this same ancient feast of Capulet’s.
Sups the fair Rosaline whom thou so loves.
With all the admired beauties of Verona.
Go thither, and with unattainted eye
Compare her face with some that I shall show,
And I will make thee think thy swan a crow
Romeo: If my eyes ever lie to me like that, let my tears turn into flames and burn them for being such obvious liars! A woman more beautiful than the one I love? The sun itself has never seen anyone as beautiful since the world began.

This conversation leads to Benvolio leading Romeo into going to the Capulet’s party, see Benvolio taunting Romeo by saying Romeo’s love Rosaline is not as beautiful as the women who would be at the party. Wanting to prove his cousin wrong and also wanting to see Rosaline again Romeo is corralled into going to the Capulet party, his argument with Benvolio also shows how passionate and rash he can be. See him waxing poetry for Rosaline after Benvolio simply says that she wasn’t as pretty as Romeo thought she was.
